During the start-up phase, the shear gap is opened up. The best setting conditions for the formulation are achieved and maintained in a matter of minutes by gradual adjustment of the gap. For processing of plasticized grades with high frictional demands, the gap can be almost completely closed.
Safety systems prevent incorrect settings or overloads.
Electromotive shear gap adjustment (EMS)
The unique EMS system offers monitored control of the melt characteristics.
The extruder barrel together with cramming unit and pelletizer is moved a few millimeters relative to the screws by a well-dimensioned gear motor, gear wheel and lead thread. This process optimization occurs while production is running. Melt pressure, degree of plasticizing, material degassing and material temperature can be influenced by varying the gap between the restrictors on the screws and the divided baffle plate.
